How To Hire a vWorker

Hiring a vWorker is relatively simple. You look at the prices offered for your project and then of course look at the vWorkers making those offers.

One simple rule I follow is to hire those people who “read” my project description. After all, I spent the time to investigate my needs, annotate how I want the project completed and then put it all together. The least the vWorker could do is read what I wrote.

So often I set up a project and do receive a few “canned” responses. Or responses from people who are new to the site and don’t yet know how it all works.

Rule Number One: You’ll also need to keep in mind that there are rules to how the vWorker site operates and that vWorkers are not allowed to ask for any monies up-front or in progression of the project. So while the project may be 50% completed, abide by the “Golden Rule” – make no partial payment until the project is completed. Do not sway from this little rule and you will have a perfect project every time.

The second thing to look for in a vWorker is that they have worked on your type of system before. Whether its PHP, C++ or Visual Basic – make sure the vWorker has had at least one positive experience in their work history. If the vWorker is new, then look at their resume and ask them for references or ask to view their portfolio.

Thirdly, keep all communications professional and on the vWorker site. Don’t talk about the project over the phone or on Skype. Anything said off the vWorker site cannot be held to the contract of the project.
Above all, remember to ask plenty of questions prior to accepting any bid and be sure to keep all communications on the vWorker site.
